HIP HOP TO IT

Melody wants to continue her grand paw-paw’s tradition of a July 4th record sale but finds herself overwhelmed with all the details that go into planning it.  Did he make a mistake by entrusting her to take over his record store?  Can she fill her Paw-Paw’s shoes and is it OK to feel afraid? After singing the “BIG FEELINGS song” Melody’s guest customer (a local hip hop artist ) shares how scared she was the first time she went on stage but by focusing “on the moment” and tuning into the rhythm of the beats – she embraced her own unique way of expressing herself.  Melody’s childhood animated friends (the Emotrons) pop up to remind her of all the skills she has and, by being “Here Now!'' She can calm her fear, make a checklist of everything that needs to be done and get the job done the “Melody” way.  The doors open and Record Sale Day is a huge success as friends and artists come by and they wrap up the episode with a upbeat hip hop song called “Hip, Hop to it – you can DO IT!”

ZACH'S BLUES

Melody’s nephew is having a bad luck day...everything seems to be inside out and upside down and after accidentally breaking a collectible toy, he feels overwhelmingly angry. He stomps out of the store asking Melody “why does she even want his help at the store when he’s clearly a failure at everything he tries?”. Melody convinces Zach to join her in the Groove Garden where they practice their relaxation breathing and, together, sing the “BIG FEELINGS song”. Melody explains how we all have those “blue days” when things don’t go the way we expect them to go but that’s OK ... the key is to recognize and express the frustrations we’re feeling in a positive, yet realway. A local blues musician joins them in the garden with his guitar for a little improv jam session illustrating how this genre of music helps him express his “blue” emotions and can even help him feel happy once he gives his blues the attention they deserve.
